Trick-or-treaters love their candy. Unfortunately, dentists don't like what all the sugar can do to teeth and all the caramel can do to braces.
Here is a sampling of what some dentists are doing about it this Halloween:
Dr. Barbara J. Ries will have her ninth annual Halloween candy buy-back Monday through Thursday at her office, 624 N. 129th St., Suite 100. Hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ries will pay $1 per pound for unopened, wrapped candy and will donate it to Treats for Troops. Ries also will visit two schools to promote tooth health and buy back candy: St. Vincent de Paul Elementary on Tuesday and Cather Elementary on Nov. 6.
Small Smiles Dental Center of Omaha will offer free dental screenings from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at its office at 311 N. 76th St.
Dr. Amber M. Allen of Aesthetic & Family Dentistry will buy back Halloween candy starting Sunday. The office will pay $1 per pound for unopened, wrapped candy. There is a 5-pound limit. All kids will receive a glowing electric toothbrush. The office is at 147th Street and West Maple Road. The candy will be sent to U.S. troops overseas.
Dr. Mark Braasch of Braasch Dentistry will accept unopened, wrapped Halloween candy from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. For each pound of candy brought to the office at 1111 N. 102nd Court, Suite 214, $1 will be donated to Children's Hospital & Medical Center. The candy will go into care packages for U.S. troops overseas.
