Vehicular homicide charges leveled

A Louisville, Neb., man has been charged in Cass County Court with two counts of motor vehicle homicide in the June deaths of two brothers.

Brandon Heanue, 23, is being charged in connection with the deaths of Michael and Kyle Matchus, Louisville brothers who died in a June crash near South Bend. Heanue is scheduled to attend a preliminary hearing in Plattsmouth on Nov. 17.

Michael Matchus, 18, died at the scene of the accident, and Kyle Matchus, 21, died four days later in an Omaha hospital.

Cass County Attorney Nathan Cox said the accident occurred June 20 when Heanue's pickup truck passed a truck driven by Michael Matchus in a no-passing zone and attempted to move back into the proper lane.

The Matchus' brothers pickup truck then lost control, crashed through a fence, rolled several times and struck a tree in the middle of a vacant lot.

Cox said speed and careless driving contributed to the accident. Four other people also were injured in the accident and treated at the Nebraska Medical Center.
