Zac Lee has kept a low profile since this time last week, but it sounds as if the Lee-Cody Green relationship hasn't changed since the Nebraska staff decided to start Green at quarterback against Baylor.

Their give-and-take, Green said, is the way it works between friends.

"He's helped me out tremendously,'' Green said. "I went to him before the Baylor game and said, ‘I'm going to need you now more than ever.' ''

Green and Lee talked about how Green would come to Lee and ask what Lee was seeing from the sidelines. The junior had started the Huskers' first seven games before not playing in the 20-10 win at Baylor.

"He's helped me out just like any other game that I would have been in,'' said Green, the freshman from Dayton, Texas. "Things haven't changed between us at all.''

Huskers offensive coordinator Shawn Watson said the two have been working well together since Green enrolled at NU in January.

"Earlier in the season when Zac was playing, Cody was his help,'' Watson said. "And Zac did a great job with Cody on the sideline on Saturday, helping him keep his poise and work through some rough spots. After I talked to him (Green), I noticed when I got involved with other players that Zac was right there helping him.''

None of this would come as a surprise with Lee, generally considered a high-character guy since he joined the program. It will remain important that Lee stays on task, because his number could be called again at any moment if Green were to be ineffective or injured.

Or, if the Huskers ever decided to utilize both in some fashion, which Watson was asked about Tuesday.
"That's not outside the realm of possibility,'' Watson said. "We'll see how this week goes in practice and what our best combination will be. If that's the one, we would consider that.''
