Two Nebraska schools to unify

CLAY CENTER, Neb. (AP) — The formal process of unifying the Clay Center and Sandy Creek school districts in south-central Nebraska will begin May 31 next year.

Their school boards and that of Lawrence-Nelson met jointly on Monday and approved the plan.

The Sandy Creek and Lawrence-Nelson districts had already unified.

Superintendent Lee Sayer of Clay Center said Wednesday that the full merger of Clay Center and Sandy Creek districts will occur in June 2011.

Clay Center students in grades 7 through 12 will begin attending the Sandy Creek school next fall. The Clay Center elementary school will remain open for the next five years.
