Karen L. Honaker “was a working mother — multiple jobs,” said her son.

Work and family, however, weren’t her whole life.

“She loved Husker football,” said her son Mike Krueger of Plattsmouth, Neb. “She loved to read. She loved to have everybody over for the holidays.”

Honaker had retired as an executive assistant for a phone company in Virginia before moving to Plattsmouth, he said.

Honaker died Sunday at her Plattsmouth home after a lengthy illness, he said. She was 71.

Other survivors include her children Susan Krueger of Haymarket, Va., Shalli Hiles of Mitchell, S.D., Carl Honaker of San Jose, Calif., Pam Cohen of Phoenix and Peggy Grace of Phoenix; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and her mother, Clarice G. Kendall, of Sioux Falls, S.D.

Nancy Honaker was preceded in death by husband Sidney D. Honaker.

Services will be held at 11 this morning at West Hills Presbyterian Church, 3015 S. 82 Ave., in Omaha.
