Suh helping fellow defensive tackle handle fame

Filed by Jon Nyatawa at 9:15 a.m.

All of a sudden, Nebraska's humble sophomore defensive tackle has a dilemma: The better Jared Crick plays, the more attention he gets.

Good thing for Crick he has a mentor dealing with the same unwanted notoriety.

Crick set a school record with 5 sacks and had a career-high 13 tackles against Baylor Saturday. And he's been showered with compliments ever since.

Senior Ndamukong Suh, the soft-spoken giant who's been successfully clogging up the line of scrimmage for two years, knows exactly how Crick feels. Because he's so talented, Suh's the face of the NU program, a role he never asked for.

Crick would rather do his job without saying a word. So would Suh, but he knows that's not possible. So Suh's trying to help Crick deal with it.

"I don't blame him, because I don't want to be in the limelight, either,” Suh said. “But if you play well, you're going to get the attention. That's something he's getting used to.”

So what does Suh tell Crick?

“You're a great player. You're going to have to deal with this, especially after I leave this year. You're going to keep getting better. You're going to have great coaching. You're going to keep evolving into a great player. Just learn to embrace it.”
