A 60-year-old day-care worker appeared in court Friday afternoon in connection with the groping of an 11-year-old girl who was at the day care.
Osmin Rivera, a Salvadoran native who has been here six years, was charged with third-degree sexual assault on a child. He was arrested Thursday night.
A judge said Rivera must post 10 percent of $35,000 bail, or $3,500, to be released from custody.
Authorities said Rivera lives at 4212 A St., the same address as Family Fun Day Care.
Police say the 11-year-old was drinking hot chocolate at the house on Thursday morning when Rivera came up behind her and fondled her breasts. He then took her into another room and started kissing her, police said.
Rivera called the girl later in the day to apologize, police said, and told officers that he accidentally touched her breasts and mouth.
