Bo Pelini after the Nebraska-Oklahoma game:
LET'S PLAY TWO
There's a saying in football that the team with two quarterbacks has none. But, at this point, why not? Bo Pelini isn't going to sit around and use the rest of 2009 as a training ground for 2010 for Cody Green. He wants to win now. Using Lee and Green might work. Here's why: If Roy Helu is healthy, and Shawn Watson continues to use a healthy dose of Helu, that takes the pressure off Lee and Green. They don't have the burden of having to make the big play. Lee looked very comfortable under center, when all he had to do was hand off. He also looked comfortable coming off the bench. Hey, at this point, whatever works.
MATT O'HERO
I said back on Sept. 20, at 6 a.m. in the Blacksburg, Va., airport that Matt O'Hanlon would help win a game for Nebraska this year. That was as much hope as hunch, because O'Hanlon wasn't totally at fault for the big pass play at the end of the Virginia Tech game. But he was going to be remembered for it. A guy like that shouldn't be tagged with that. And he won't be. O'Hanlon's three interceptions put him in the record book. And don't forget the 12 tackles, including nine solo. NU's safeties were huge Saturday night, flying around and cutting off running lanes outside.
TWO-TEAM RACE
The Big 12 North race sure looks like a two-team affair now between Nebraska (3-2) and Kansas State (4-2), with the Nov. 21 game in Lincoln shaping up as the de facto title game. Both teams could still get to six but five looks like a magic number. And now NU has a small margin for error, but I wouldn't want to go to Boulder needing to win; who knows what that team will be like in three weeks? Better to jump on Kansas next weekend with an ailing Todd Reesing. Oh, yes, Colorado (2-3) is still in it, but it's hard to see the Buffs winning out, with games at Iowa State and Oklahoma State left.
