Parades mark Veterans Day

By Rick Ruggles

COUNCIL BLUFFS -- A few hundred local residents lined downtown streets Saturday for the Veterans Day parade.

They enjoyed sunshine, temperatures in the mid-60s, marching bands and the participation of various veterans groups.

Afterward, some went to the Eagles Club on F Street for lunch and music. Organizers there held a moment of silence out of respect for family members and victims of the Fort Hood, Texas, shootings.

Bellevue also held its annual Veterans Day parade this morning in the Olde Towne section. The parade featured more than 100 entries and military personnel from Offutt Air Force Base.

The traditional Veterans Day holiday is Wednesday.
