The Bellbrook neighborhood will present “Christmas in the Brook” from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today as a benefit for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Items for sale will include gelato, jewelry, kitchen tools, skin care products, purses, baby accessories, candles, raffle tickets and more. The event will be in the Bellbrook Clubhouse, 192nd and Harrison Streets.

The Citizen Patrol of the Keystone neighborhood will have an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast Sunday at VFW Post No. 2503, 89th Street and Military Avenue. The 8 a.m.-to-1 p.m. breakfast costs $5 for adults and $3 for children younger than 12. The pancake breakfast is the patrol’s only fundraiser for the year.

The Keystone Community Task Force recently passed a huge milestone: It’s 40 years old. The group formed on Oct. 2, 1969.

The Omaha Public Power District asks neighborhood residents to report streets lights that are out or that keep going on and off. Before calling OPPD at 554-6773, note the address of the home or business closest to the light.

The Christ Child Center, 11th and Dorcas Streets, is collecting yarn for its Dahlman neighborhood senior citizens who knit baby items for distribution year-round to new mothers and young children. Questions? Call 341-1880.

Family Housing Advisory Services, a nonprofit inner-city group, will help homeowners with these problems: housing discrimination; foreclosure prevention; and education about homeownership or finances. Call 934-7921.

There’s a new bus bench at 38th and Dodge Streets, thanks to the Joslyn Castle and the North Gold Coast Neighborhood Associations. A similar bench can be found at 40th and Dodge. The benches do double duty: provide seating for those waiting for a bus and serve as entrance signs for the neighborhood. The 38th and Dodge bench also has a new, matching waste receptacle to keep the neighborhood clean.

Mondays and Wednesdays at 9 a.m., the Leavenworth Neighborhood Association Walking Club gathers at the north entrance to Jackson Elementary School.

In the spring of 2010, the Field Club Homeowners League will participate in the Omaha Neighborhood Scan project. This will be done with the Neighborhood Center and the University of Nebraska at Omaha. The project will allow Field Club neighbors to help maintain property value by assessing code violations in the neighborhood.
