SILVER CREEK, Neb. -- What started as a controlled burn of some conservation acres northwest of Silver Creek ended with more than 160 acres scorched, including cropland and a tractor.
Genoa Fire Chief Jim Carlson said his crews were called about 1:45 p.m. Sunday and battled the blaze until about 4:30 p.m.
The bulk of the land was owned by Don Brovioack, who had a permit to burn conservation acreage on his property, Carlson said. The wind came up and pushed the fire to the east where it overtook some corn crop owned by a neighbor.
Carlson said a tractor that was borrowed from Paul Brovioack to help disc land to help battle the blaze, was also burned.
All told, Carlson said, 160 acres was burned, including primarily pasture, but also some cropland.
Crews from the Genoa Volunteer Fire Department and the Silver Creek Volunteer Fire Department responded.
