LINCOLN -- Dog lovers growled and a panel of state senators quickly responded this afternoon.
After a public hearing, the Legislature's Agriculture Committee killed a proposal that would have weakened a 2007 law requiring inspections of commercial dog breeding facilities every two years.
E-mails of protest had poured into to senators after State Sen. Tom Carlson of Holdrege proposed easing off on inspections to save money and help solve the state's projected $334 budget shortfall.
