Football: Big 12 week in review

Players of the week

Offense: Baylor quarterback Nick Florence. The freshman from Garland, Texas, set a school record with 427 yards passing (32 of 43) and accounted for four touchdowns in a 40-32 win at Missouri.

Defense: Nebraska safety Matt O’Hanlon. The senior from Bellevue intercepted a school-record three passes and had 12 tackles in a 10-3 win over Oklahoma.

Special teams: Texas A&M tailback Cyrus Gray. The sophomore from DeSoto, Texas, returned four kickoffs for 181 yards, including a 99-yarder for a touchdown, in a 35-34 loss to Colorado.

Stat of the week

Missouri hasn’t scored an offensive touchdown in the second half since a Sept. 25 game at Nevada. In Big 12 games, the Tigers have been outscored 80-11 in the second half (three field goals, one safety).

Columbia (Mo.) Daily Tribune columnist Joe Walljasper addressed MU’s second-half blues with this opening paragraph: “I can’t tell you specifically what goes on in the locker room at halftime of a Missouri football game. I’m not ruling out beer pong, but like I said, I don’t know.’’

Quote of the week

Assistant head coach Bill Bleil of Iowa State, which has a 9-7 win over Nebraska: “Honestly, we think Oklahoma State is the best team we’ve played to date.’’

Bits and pieces

Oklahoma State quarterback Zac Robinson set the school’s all-time passing yardage record Saturday, getting to 8,065 yards. The old mark was 7,997 by OSU coach Mike Gundy. ... OSU has won at least seven games in four straight seasons for the first time in history. ... Colorado hasn’t won consecutive games since starting the 2008 season 3-0. ... Missouri backup strong safety Hardy Ricks (torn ACL) is out for the season. ... Baylor, down at halftime, rallied to beat Missouri. That ended a 23-game BU losing streak when behind at half. . ... Texas has held its past six opponents to 14 points or less.
