“Under the Sea” was the theme of the 2009 Opera Omaha Guild Cotillion graduation Nov. 6 at the Qwest Center Omaha. More than 365 sixth-graders from the Omaha, Lincoln and Council Bluffs area and their parents celebrated the end of the kids' six-week course on ballroom dancing, table manners and proper etiquette.

Nearly 1,000 guests attended. Guests dined on Caesar salad, petite tenders and garlic chicken, mashed potatoes and honey-glazed carrots. Vanilla cheesecake with chocolate drizzle was served for dessert.

After dinner and some presentations, both the children and their parents danced.

Instructors John P. Young and Sandra Day taught the dancing and social amenities portion of the classes. Melinda Morath and Stacey Stohlmann taught table manners and conversation.

Cotillion co-chairwomen were Casey Fehringer, Barbara Greene and Kathy Neary. Cotillion graduation co-chairwomen were Sally English and Julie Liakos.

The Cotillion Reunion Party will be Feb. 21 at the Happy Hollow Club.

Event planner, author and television show host David Tutera was the guest speaker at the Clarkson Service League's Santa's Preview “Holiday by Design” luncheon Nov. 4 at the Nebraska Medical Center.

Patron guests were invited to a special meet-and-greet and book signing with Tutera before the luncheon.

Tutera's celebrity client list includes Jennifer Lopez, Elton John, Barbara Walters, Tommy Hilfiger and former Vice President Al Gore. Tutera hosts “Party Planner With David Tutera” on the Discovery Home Channel and the new series “My Fair Wedding” on WEtv. Tutera has also written several party planning books.

In addition to the luncheon, Santa's Preview included a shopping boutique featuring unusual gift items and holiday merchandise on Nov. 4 and 5.

Co-chairwomen for this year's Santa's Preview were Kristin Lundgren and Susie Nelson. President of the Clarkson Service League is Erin Murnan. Clarkson Gift Shop chairmen are Lynne Holdenried and Marianne Holland.

The Joslyn Art Museum Association held its annual meeting Wednesday at the museum.

New officers are Kelly Thedinger, president; Teresa Meyer, president-elect; Cathy Born, Judy Johnston and Jan Brockman, vice presidents; Anne Baxter, treasurer; Jackie Cramer and Jan Vrana, secretaries; and Cathy Perry, adviser.
