NU STAR
When the Huskers looked for big yardage, junior Niles Paul was always involved. He caught four passes for a career-high 154 yards. He also found a way to get open on Nebraska’s 2-point conversion attempt in the fourth, hauling in the pass and giving NU a seven-point lead.
HIGHLIGHT
The long-developing toss play, which seems incredibly predictable even before the ball’s snapped, turned out to be the call that sealed the win for Nebraska Saturday. On a third down and 10 with 3:16 left, junior Roy Helu gained 30 yards on the play.
BUSTED PLAY
The second-down option play was going nowhere midway through the second quarter, but junior Zac Lee made a pitch to Helu anyway. Helu never pulled it in and fumbled it as he was tackled out of bounds. Fortunately for Nebraska, the ball fell out of bounds too.
OUR TAKE
Nebraska still seems a bit basic with the way it approaches things offensively, but with its defense slowing opponents down like it has, that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. As expected, the Huskers established their run game and used a potent play-action passing attack often enough. But for the first time, Nebraska’s offense gave the team a lift all by itself. The struggling unit found a way to convert, scoring 18 points in the final quarter.
