YUTAN, Neb. — The Nebraska 92 bridge over the Platte River was closed much of Friday night as authorities investigated a head-on crash that killed a 27-year-old Nebraska woman.

The collision occurred about 5:30 p.m. on the Saunders County side of the bridge. Authorities continued to investigate the cause of the crash, and the highway remained closed after 10:30 p.m.

Chantelle E. Wiemer of Stromsburg, Neb., died at the scene.

The wreck involved a pickup and a sport utility vehicle, each occupied only by a driver. The pickup rolled several times and landed on its top, fatally injuring Wiemer, said Chief Deputy Bob Thorson of the Saunders County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators say the pickup appears to have crossed the center line.

The SUV driver, a 32-year-old woman, was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center. Authorities described her condition as stable. She was not immediately identified.
