Even the most diehard “Twilight” fans can learn a thing or two about Stephenie Meyer's vampire-romance saga.
1. When Meyer began writing the book, she hadn't named Edward or Bella. So she called them “he” and “she.”
2. Like Bella, Meyer grew up in Phoenix and moved to Forks, Wash., while in high school.
3. Meyer, too, went from being a mousy schoolgirl to having overnight popularity.
4. The idea for “Twilight” came to Meyer in a dream on June 2, 2003.
5. “Twilight” fans wanted “Smallville” hottie actor Tom Welling to play the part of Edward Cullen.
6. Actor Robert Pattinson won the role. He's also an aspiring musician whose songs are included on the film's soundtrack.
7. Before it was “Twilight,” Meyer titled the book “Forks” after the real-world town most of the story is set in.
8. On her Web site, Meyer shares a list of music (Radiohead, Coldplay, Linkin Park) she listened to while writing “Twilight.” Check out the playlist here.
9. On average, 100 “Twilight” fans visit Forks, Wash., daily. Sully's Drive-in restaurant offers Bella Burgers on its menu, served with a pair of plastic vampire teeth.
10. Meyer started writing a companion book to “Twilight,” based on Edward's perspective. But she abandoned the project when someone leaked a few chapters online. Read a few of those chapters here.
11. Actress Kristen Stewart, who plays Bella, was first discovered at age 8 when she starred in a Christmas pageant.
12. Stewart was 17 when the first “Twilight” movie was shot. Her favorite part, she said, was “getting to kiss Edward Cullen.”
