Nebraska coyote facts

>> Eastern Nebraska coyotes generally have coarse brownish gray to buff color coat. Sand Hills and Panhandle coyotes’ coats are much lighter with dense, soft underfur.

>> 20 to 35 pounds. 18 to 21 inches tall. 48 to 60 inches long from tip of nose to tip of tail.

>> Average litter: 4 to 7 pups.

>> Run as fast as 40 mph.

>> Most vocal mammal in Nebraska. Yips and howls.

>> Observed throughout day. Most active at dusk and dawn.

>> Diet includes fruits and vegetables, small wild and domestic animals, snakes and lizards, pet food and garbage.

>> Hunting, trapping, vehicle collisions cause most coyote deaths.
