Adesta, an Omaha-based company that builds communications systems and electronic security networks, was acquired for $66 million Tuesday by G4S, the world’s largest security services group.

Prior to the acquisition, Adesta was held by McCarthy Group Inc., an Omaha private equity firm, and had revenues of $92 million last year. It was founded in 1988 as Kiewit Network Technologies by Peter Kiewit Sons’ Inc.

G4S President Keith Whitelock said the acquisition will allow G4S, which is based in the United Kingdom, to utilize Adesta’s innovative technologies to deliver services to American seaports, where it has “impressive market penetration” and to chemical and petrochemical sites.

Pending regulatory approval, Adesta and its approximately 400 employees will continue to operate independently and cooperatively with G4S.

G4S has operations in 110 countries and employs about 585,000 people.
