KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Tyler Bullock made 12 of 13 field goals while scoring 28 points and UNO shot 60.9 percent from the field Wednesday night in a 79-71 win at Rockhurst.
Jeff Martin added 14 points and Dion Curry scored 13, while Andrew Bridger had 10 assists for UNO (2-0). Matt Newman had 11 rebounds and Eugene Bain had 10 for the Mavericks, who outrebounded Rockhurst 46-29.
Aaron Hill led the Hawks (0-1) with 29 points, including seven of nine from 3-point range.
Martin made both his 3-point attempts in the first half and stretched it to four straight in the second half — a streak of nine in a row over two games. His fourth gave the Mavericks the lead back at 44-42 with 16 minutes to go. Rockhurst had moved in front 42-41 on a 3-pointer by Bellevue West graduate Jake Meyer for its only lead of the night.
The Hawks were able to tie the score twice after that, the last with 13:31 to go, but they never led again. UNO hit 28 of 46 field goals, while Rockhurst was 24 of 74 for 32.4 percent.
The Mavs opened with a 6-0 run, with Bullock getting four of those points. His layup at 11:54 gave UNO an eight-point lead and a 3-pointer by Martin gave the Mavs a 14-point lead, 23-9, at the 10:27 mark.
