    SWIMMING

    Nebraska takes lead in invitational

    LINCOLN — Mariah Hutchinson won the 500-yard freestyle as the Nebraska swimming and diving team moved into first place at the Husker Invitational.

    The Huskers, who trailed Rice 152-130 at the start of the day, surged ahead 660-529. The University of Nebraska at Omaha was fourth (266.5).

    Hutchinson’s time of 5 minutes, 1.30 seconds was more than four seconds ahead of the rest of the field. The Huskers also won the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:53.52.

    Rice’s Pam Zelnick won the 50-yard freestyle, with Nebraska’s Hailey Dean, Ariel Weech and Jess Andrews taking the next three spots.

    Iowa State’s Tien Tran won the one-meter diving with a score of 295.00. Nebraska’s Amy Herman took second (260.15) and D’Arcy Schmidt third (248.15).
