Two people were injured Friday evening when their minivan pulled out of the lot of a Florence-area grocery store and was T-boned by a U.S. Postal Service semi, according to police.
The truck was traveling north on 30th Street when the van pulled out of No Frills Supermarket, 7402 N. 30th St., Sgt. Chris Perkins said. U.S. Postal Service driver J.D. Prince said the van just drove in front of him.
Two teens were in the van when it was nearly crushed between the semi and a utility pole. Rescue workers had to pull one girl from the wreckage.
Preliminary reports that four people had been in the van were incorrect. The van’s driver, a 16-year-old girl, tried to tell police her brother had been driving, authorities said. She had called her brother and father, who arrived before police.
The girl was cited on suspicion of driving without an operator’s license, failure to yield and providing false information. She had a learner’s permit, police said.
Her brother, 18, was arrested on suspicion of obstructing an officer and disorderly conduct.
The girl and her passenger, 15, were treated for injuries at an Omaha-area hospital.
Prince said he felt OK.
