I too am disgusted with Suttle's explanation of massive hiring increases for salaries
It is just so typical of government do as I say not as I do..he is following the obama doctrine right down the line

As for police and fire I appreciate their positions but they are not bailing out my 401k and I know the city has to contribute but it is their pension and I am tired of property taxes being the end all to everything maybe some of them need to be laid off and then realize how nice their little jobs are
if anyone actually read their contracts they would be sick to their stomach both fire and police have generous packages more than a lot of agencies ever thought about having and yet they are never satisfied
sure I understand the union philosophy but I am also realistic in this climate with all the financial problems we have within the city and we don't know how/if obama is going to bury us all so we all end up on welfare people are very skeptical of any new taxes

CIR said the cops are underpaid maybe so but if you look at their entire contract no they are not
have you read the CIR decision? do you know there is a full time slot now for union president or he/she can appoint someone full time union liaison and be paid a full salary and benefits by the city? sure other unions do it but wow I think if the public knew that little bit of information they would be furious
why do tax dollars pay someone to do union business full time? no one in the private sector would ever get that benefit
and the firemen why has it never been explored for them to change their schedule of working 10 days a month? surely other departments work different shifts
as much as I appreciate police and fire what they do
they are self indulgent and believe they are owed everything and no one seems to want to hold them accountable
Councilman Welch tried he told everyone and none listened

one more thing I don't understand
why does the city let friends negotiate with friends? why not hire someone to negotiate contracts with police, fire, civilians that doesn't have a stake in the outcome or who doesn't golf with each other? it has never made sense to me why this happens every time
