Christmas concert to benefit college

Tickets are on sale now for a “Colors of Christmas” concert to be presented by Nebraska Christian College on Dec. 12

The 7 p.m. concert, a fundraiser for the Omaha college, will be held at the Civic Auditorium Music Hall. Performers will include Jaci Valasquez, six-time Dove award winner and Grammy nominee, as well as Salvador, a Latin worship band, and the Nebraska Christian College Gospel Choir.

Urban League sponsoring luncheon

Michael B. Adams will give the keynote address at the annual Equal Opportunity Day Luncheon on Dec. 4. It will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Holiday Inn at 3321 S. 72nd St.

Adams is director of affirmative action, equal employment and diversity at the University California-San Francisco.

The Urban League of Nebraska sponsors the event. Tickets are $75 per person for lunch, or $100 per person for luncheon and workshop registration. Tickets can be purchased online at www.urbanleagueneb.org.

Use the same Web site for information about the four workshops that precede the luncheon.

Session to discuss school board service

The Greater Omaha Chamber' of Commerce's Education and Workforce Council is sponsoring an information session for people who want to learn more serving on a school board.

Current board members from various districts will discuss the roles, responsibilities, qualifications and rewards of being a school board member.

The session will be Dec. 1 from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the chamber's downtown office, 1301 Harney St.

Reservations are due by Nov. 30 through OmahaChamber.org.

Nebraskaland Days event tickets on sale

Nebraskaland Days in North Platte won't happen again until June 2010, but tickets will go on sale today for the key musical performance and the Buffalo Bill Rodeo.

Darius Rucker, who was just named the Country Music Association New Artist of the Year, will take the stage June 26.

The first 500 grandstand or general admission tickets are $25 plus fees, the next 1,500 tickets are $30 plus fees.

The rodeo will run from June 16-19, with the Nebraskaland Days parade the last day.

Exhibit features 4-H textile work

The textile work of 22 4-H members ranging in age from 10 to 19 are on display through Dec. 4 in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery.

The work in the 16th annual “Celebration of Youth” exhibit was selected for its creativity, design and craftsmanship from the clothing, fashion revue and home environment exhibits at the 2009 Nebraska State Fair. The work of 12 alternates also will be on view in the UNL Textiles, Clothing and Design Department.

The gallery is on the second floor of the Home Economics Building, 35th Street north of East Campus Loop. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call 402-472-2911 or visit textilegallery.unl.edu.
