Football: Big 12 ratings

1. Texas (11-0, 7-0)

Last week: Beat Kansas 51-20. Up next: at Texas A&M on Thursday, 7 p.m., ESPN. Sure, rivalry games often are toss-ups. But the Longhorns are playing their best football at the right time of the year.

2. Oklahoma State (9-2, 6-1)

Last week: Beat Colorado 31-28. Up next: at Oklahoma on Saturday, 11:30 a.m., FSN. An at-large bid to the Fiesta Bowl is in play if OSU beats Oklahoma and Texas wins the Big 12 championship.

3. Nebraska (8-3, 5-2)

Last week: Beat Kansas State 17-3. Up next: at Colorado on Friday, 2:30 p.m., ABC. This has been a crazy series at times, but NU’s defense and special teams should keep anything bizarre from happening.

4. Texas Tech (7-4, 4-3)

Last week: Beat Oklahoma 41-13. Up next: Baylor in Arlington, Texas, on Saturday, 5 p.m., FSN. The Red Raiders’ current run of 16 straight seasons of bowl eligibility is the best among all Big 12 schools.

5. Oklahoma (6-5, 4-3)

Last week: Lost to Texas Tech 41-13. Up next: Oklahoma State on Saturday, 11:30 a.m., FSN. What a crazy ride for the Sooners — from national title hopes in September to the possibility of a losing season.

6. Missouri (7-4, 3-4)

Last week: Beat Iowa State 34-24. Up next: Kansas in Kansas City, Mo., on Saturday, 2:30 p.m., ABC. Receiver Danario Alexander is making an All-America push with 34 catches for 578 yards in the past three games.

7. Texas A&M (6-5, 3-4)

Last week: Beat Baylor 38-3. Up next: Texas on Thursday, 7 p.m., ESPN. Who leads the Big 12 in touchdowns accounted for? Aggie QB Jarrod Johnson with 32 (24 passing, 8 rushing).

8. Iowa State (6-6, 3-5)

Last week: Lost to Missouri 34-24. Up next: Possible bowl game. With three Big 12 teams already out of the bowl mix, ISU’s postseason hopes look very strong — and will be a lock if Kansas loses to Missouri.

9. Kansas State (6-6, 4-4)

Last week: Lost to Nebraska 17-3. Up next: Season over. As much disappointment as there is in missing out on a bowl bid, the Wildcats will benefit from the extra recruiting time.

10. Kansas (5-6, 1-6)

Last week: Lost to Texas 51-20. Up next: Missouri in Kansas City, Mo., on Saturday, 2:30 p.m., ABC. At the least, the Jayhawks have some place to channel their anger this week by playing rival Missouri.

11. Colorado (3-8, 2-5)

Last week: Lost to Oklahoma State 31-28. Up next: Nebraska on Friday, 2:30 p.m., ABC. For the second time this season, the Buffs had a road game basically handed to them (at OSU) and still lost.

12. Baylor (4-7, 1-6)

Last week: Lost to Texas A&M 38-3. Up next: Texas Tech in Arlington, Texas, on Saturday, 5 p.m., FSN. The Bears’ bowl drought is now 15 seasons, and it will continue to grow if the line play isn’t shored up soon.
