Memo to Omaha baseball fans and sentimentalists, mark this down: Thursday night, Sept. 2, 2010. That's the day of the Omaha Royals vs. Round Rock game, the last baseball game to be played in Rosenblatt Stadium.

The Royals announced their 2010 schedule on Tuesday and that date, along with the April 8 opener, was noteworthy. The Royals are planning a tribute to Rosenblatt next season, but haven't said what yet. I'm sure it will be classy and well-done. Now, we have a finish line for the grand, old ballpark. Let the trail of tears begin.

In other news:

1. Mike Messerly, my Chik-fil-A update guy, emailed me that the Facebook petition to get a Chik-fil-A in Omaha is 346 signatures short of the goal of 5,000. Wow. I had no idea that would happen. Anyway, here's the link for all you folks in need of a tasty chicken breast sandwich and a mouth-watering shake.

2. Ndamukong Suh is one of three finalists for the Outland Trophy, along with Oklahoma State offensive tackle Russell Okung and Idaho guard Mike Iupati. I'm a little surprised by the other finalists, so I have no feel whether Suh will win. I think he should. But anyway, the Football Writers Association of America All-American Committee votes on the award. They'll do it by conference call in the next two weeks if they haven't already. Cross your fingers. Suh deserves it. And it would be great to have a Nebraska winner at the Outland Trophy dinner in Omaha in January. We've had a drought since 1997.

Update: The Chik-fil-A petition has now passed 5,000 signatures. But don't let that stop you from adding your name.
