Man gets prison in Neb. drug deal

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) — A Texas man has been given two to six years in prison for his role in a western Nebraska drug deal.

After an agreement with prosecutors, 28-year-old Jesus Rodriguez of Brownsville, Texas, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of attempted possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. He was sentenced on Monday.

The case began in July when a drug-sniffing dog found marijuana in a package at an Omaha post office. The package was addressed to a North Platte residence. Police officers converged on the home after the package was delivered.

Three people were arrested there. Rodriguez was arrested at the North Platte bus station as he arrived from Texas.

Besides the pot charges, he was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.
