Emptying out the notebook from Ron Brown's appearance at the Big Red Breakfast, including more from the Nebraska assistant coach on the Huskers' focus for the trip to Colorado.
NU (8-3) already has clinched the Big 12 North with the Friday game remaining against the Buffaloes (3-8).
"Colorado gives us another great challenge,'' Brown said. "What the media and what the people want to do now is have us focus on Texas (in the Big 12 title game). Somebody asked me today, ‘What day do you leave for Texas.' I said, ‘I haven't even thought of that. I'm trying to figure out tomorrow. When we leave tomorrow for the Colorado game.'
"This is a huge game for us because we're not after just a championship. We're after a paragon. We're after a way of life. No matter what the situation, you're going to get everything out of me. That is the opponent.''
-- On the Huskers' progress under Bo Pelini as head coach:
"We have come so far in two years, and I don't think it's really visible to the public at large. I think people tend to get caught up in numbers. You want to better last season's records and you want to keep climbing notches. But it takes a lot in the process.''
Also:
"We're not perfect. It's a little rough (around) the edges sometimes. But there's something going on in the program that's very special.''
-- Brown again reiterated that he thought the Missouri game last season was a pivotal point for the program. Pelini brought together the coaching staff after the game, a 52-17 loss at home to the Tigers.
"It wasn't going to be, ‘What happened?' It was going to be, ‘How do we respond?' That was going to decide what this program was going to be about.''
-- On trying to squeeze the most out of the offense:
"We put our stuff on the table and said, ‘Here's what we have.' Pretty? No. Functional? Yes.''
Also:
"Our offensive line, I tell you what, man, Purple Hearts for every one of them. They've been hurt but they been playing. I had a tight end (Mike McNeill) last week who had cracked ribs and didn't practice all week -- went out and played, and played his heart out.''
