HOLDREGE - A former deputy treasurer in Phelps County has violated her probation and has landed in jail.
Mary Hammond, 68, was sentenced to five years probation in October 2007 after pleading no contest to the theft of $31,200 from the Phelps County Treasurer's Office. As part of her probation, she was ordered to repay the entire amount in $1,000 increments.
In September, the state received notice from Hammond's probation officer that she was $5,600 behind in restitution, according to court records.
Hammond's probation was revoked Tuesday and she was sentended to 180 days in county jail with 60 days to be suspended. She is being held in the Phelps County Justice Center.
