Holiday happenings across Midlands

Here is a sampling of some of the special holiday events in our region:

Holiday in the Sky at Shadow Lake Towne Center in Papillion: Tonight starting at 6:30 will be tree lighting, live music, free sleigh rides, ice carving, the arrival of Santa and more. The season continues with holiday carolers, bell choirs, the Ring of Fire Flutes, elementary school choirs, bands and more. Visit www.shadowlakeshopping.com for more information. The shopping center is at Nebraska Highway 370 and 72nd Street.

Free kids craft activities at Bass Pro Shop in Council Bluffs: Noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through Dec. 20. Activity varies by week but includes ornament making and cookie making.

Christmas in the Country at Bellevue Berry Farm:Saturday through Dec. 20 on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Visits with Santa, hayrack rides, storytelling, puppet show, kids crafts, gingerbread house contest, strolling carolers, living Nativity on Sunday afternoons, crafters, food, breakfast with Santa every Saturday morning at 8 a.m. and more. Admission charged. Bring two cans of food for a food bank and receive $1 off admission. Located between Nebraska Highway 370 and Cornhusker Road on 48th Street. Trees festival in Hastings: now through Jan. 1, 27th annual Festival of Trees, the Hastings (Neb.) Museum of Natural and Cultural History .

Christmas in Columbus: Starting Monday through Dec. 24, “Christmas Unwrapped” at the Columbus Art Gallery in the lower level of the Columbus Public Library. Event showcases the talents of regional artists; everything in the exhibit is for sale. For more information, contact Lisa Rosendahl at 402-563-1016.

Henderson Heritage & Tourism Holiday Tour of Homes: In Henderson, Neb., on Saturday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Four homes and a church are on the tour. The Mennonite Brethren Church will have its sanctuary and fellowship hall decorated and serve cider and cookies. Tickets are $8; buy them Saturday at the Henderson Heritage Park.
