Oslo teen shares stories

August Skara was a world away from home, but he felt right at home.

The 17-year-old exchange student from Oslo, Norway, recently read children's books from Norway to students at three elementary schools.

When Skara couldn't quickly translate words, he used gestures, which the American kids understood.

Skara is a senior at Bellevue West High School through the Pax student exchange program.

He lives in Bellevue with his host family, Frank and Jan Pasteka and their children, Rachel, 16, and Cole, 8.

Back home in Norway are Skara's parents, 13-year-old sister and 8-year-old brother.

First-graders and fifth-graders at Leonard Lawrence Elementary School in Bellevue, third-graders at Bellevue Elementary and third-grader Cole's class at Western Hills Magnet Center in Omaha heard Skara's stories.
