Association honors food pantry founder
Joe Clark, president of the Brown Park Neighborhood Association, wanted a way to honor Mary Anaya, who died Oct. 21 of lung cancer. Anaya was co-founder and operator of Mission for All Nations, the largest food pantry in a 93-county area of Nebraska and Iowa.
The food pantry is within the Brown Park neighborhood, so Clark thought immediately of food. Within two weeks, he had gathered 75 turkeys from association members for the pantry. The neighborhood group presented the turkeys to the pantry Nov. 19.
Clark said he hopes the turkey drive will become an annual neighborhood tradition.

The Park East Neighborhood Association will have a holiday networking event from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday for business owners, employees and residents of the Park East neighborhood.
Attendees are asked to bring household items that will be donated to St. Peter's Angel Tree Project. It will provide Park East residents with baskets of household supplies.
