Omaha Public Library to hold annual sale
It's book sale time for the Friends of the Omaha Public Library.
The sale will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Swanson Library, 90th Street and West Dodge Road.
Members of Friends of the Omaha Public Library will be able to buy from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday. Memberships are available at the door starting at $15.
Proceeds provide additional library programming and materials.
Scientific innovation is topic of discussion
Scientist Donald Klepser will discuss “How Much Would You Pay for a Better Future? The Costs and Benefits of Scientific Innovation” at Tuesday's Omaha Science Cafe.
Klepser's talk will focus on the nature, challenges and rewards of scientific discovery. He is an assistant professor in the department of pharmacy practice at the University of Nebraska Medical Center's College of Pharmacy.
The event is free and open to the public, and will run from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Slowdown, 729 N. 14th St.
Housing advocate to address Hungry Club
Teresa Hunter, executive director of Family Housing Advisory Services, will speak to the Hungry Club at its meeting at noon Wednesday.
The gathering will be at Big Mama's Kitchen, 45th Street and Bedford Avenue. Nonmembers are welcome to hear the talk free.
Leadership program nominees are sought
Nominations and applications will be accepted through Dec. 11 for the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Bellevue Program.
Participants can increase civic awareness and discover new information about government, education and economic development.

‘Generation Rx' getting local free showing
A showing of the movie “Generation Rx” will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at Deer Creek Country Club, 12101 Deer Creek Drive. This event is free and open to the public.
“Generation Rx” investigates questionable connections between drug companies and their regulatory watchdogs at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. This documentary also questions whether we have forced millions of children onto pharmaceutical drugs for commercial rather than medical reasons.

Quilt center showing works of 21 artists
Quilts of 21 contemporary artists are on display through May 9 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's International Quilt Study Center and Museum in the new exhibition “Perspectives: Art, Craft, Design and the Studio Quilt.”
UNL scholar Michael James, studio quilter and chairman of UNL's department of textiles, clothing and design, and fellow fiber artist and New York City-based art critic Sandra Sider curated the exhibition. Works are from five countries.
Tours are available at 11 a.m. Wednesdays and 1 p.m. Saturdays. These tours are free with admission.
The museum is open 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sundays; closed Mondays and major holidays. For more information, go to www.quiltstudy.org.
