Nebraska appears likely to re-enter the AP Top 25 today after a seven-week absence. Seven teams in the poll lost last week, including No. 20 Mississippi, No. 22 Utah and No. 23 North Carolina.
The Huskers last week received the second-highest vote total among unranked teams.
NU dropped from the rankings Oct. 18 -- one day after its 31-10 loss to Texas Tech. It's the 9-7 defeat to Iowa State a week later, though that continues to hamper the Huskers' perception nationally.
Nebraska's chance to erase the Iowa State impact arrives Saturday at Cowboys Stadium against No. 3-ranked Texas. And while we're on the subject of the AP rankings, this Big 12 championship game presents another opportunity for the Huskers to end their amazing 21-game losing streak against teams rated higher than 20th. It dates to a 2001 win over Oklahoma.
