Omaha Fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of two fires this morning.

Assistant Fire Chief Steve Ausdemore said firefighters were called to 821 S. 27th St. just after 6 a.m. and found the south unit of a vacant duplex in flames.

Ausdemore said the fire started in the kitchen and flames quickly burned through the roof, making it complicated for firefighters. They eventually got the fire under control.

Firefighters were also called to 3836 Franklin St. about 7:15 a.m.

Ausdemore said a fire had started in the basement of the singe-family house and extended into the walls, burning through areas of the first floor. No one was home at the time.

Ausdemore said that fire was under control in about 25 minutes.

No injuries were reported in either fire. An estimate of the damages in both fires was not immediately available.
