Andi Kibler feared that security lines might be long and flights delayed at the close of the holiday weekend.
But the 53-year-old Las Vegas resident was relieved Sunday when she arrived at Eppley Airfield for her flight home.
“It's been better than I expected. Everything's been on time.”
That was the general story for travelers in and out of Omaha on the Sunday after Thanksgiving.
“It's been smooth all day,” said Phil Jensen, operations supervisor for the Omaha Airport Authority. “We've had some rushes, but generally it's been steady. It's been an average day for us.”
Lines, if any, at the ticket counters were short, and good weather throughout the nation helped keep the departures and arrivals board full of “on time” flights.
“The weather has been cooperating in other cities and flights have been on time all day,” Jensen said.
He said the number of travelers was about the same as last year — a sign that passengers apparently didn't cut back on holiday travel.
Alec Sankey, 24 of Bellevue said a down economy couldn't keep him from visiting family in Phoenix over the holiday.
He said he didn't notice a difference in traveling the Sunday after Thanksgiving compared with any other day. He was delayed in Phoenix for about 25 minutes but still arrived in Omaha on time.
“There's nothing really different, no big issues,” he said.
Dennis Janzen also had a nearly flawless arrival while traveling with about 16 young women to the NAIA volleyball national championship finals, which start Tuesday at the Gateway Arena in Sioux City, Iowa.
The head coach of the Fresno Pacific University volleyball team had to deal with only one problem: a torn duffel bag belonging to one of his players.
Though Janzen and his players were in a hurry, he said they didn't face any unusual delays as the Thanksgiving holiday wrapped up.
“It hasn't seemed really busy,” he said.
Admittedly, he was likely focused on other things: His undefeated Sunbirds are two-time defending national champions and were headed to Sioux City with hopes of claiming their fifth national title.
