Christmas Gift Shop at the Omaha VA Medical Center: American Legion Auxiliary volunteers operate their Christmas Gift Shop today through Dec. 11 at 4101 Woolworth Ave. The gift shop gives veterans an opportunity to select a free gift for a family member. Members take a mobile cart to the hospital rooms of those unable to visit the gift shop.
Arts for Hearts at UNMC Munroe-Meyer Institute: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday in the Durham Outpatient Center central atrium. Pottery and paintings for sale were created by adults with developmental disabilities who participate in various recreational therapy programs at the Institute. Proceeds fund recreation programs for these adults.
Wayne State College “Winter Wonderland”: 7 p.m. on Wednesday on the west side of the Hahn Administration Building on the Wayne State campus. Festivities planned for the public include a tree lighting, horse-drawn sleigh rides, caroling, cookies and hot chocolate. Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be attending. Reindeer games also are planned.
North Platte Community College and Santa's Workshop: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the fireplace area of the South Campus. Craft-making, cookie decorating and more holiday fun are planned. Admission is the donation of one nonperishable food item, which will be given to the local food pantry.
Lincoln's Star City Parade: 11 a.m. Saturday in downtown Lincoln. A preview Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the floats, photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus, holiday crafts and treats. Admission to event is $10 for adults, $5 for children.
