1. Texas (12-0, 8-0)
Last week: Beat Texas A&M 49-39. Up next: Nebraska on Saturday, 7 p.m., ABC. The Longhorns remain highly motivated to right the perceived wrongs from last season when they were left out of the BCS title game.
2. Nebraska (9-3, 6-2)
Last week: Beat Colorado 28-20. Up next: Texas on Saturday, 7 p.m., ABC. This isn't so much a promotion for NU as a demotion for Oklahoma State. Still, the Huskers deserve a salute for five straight wins.
3. Oklahoma State (9-3, 6-2)
Last week: Lost to Oklahoma 27-0. Up next: Bowl game. Mike Gundy is now 0-10 against Texas and Oklahoma. Difficult to move up in the South Division without beating the longtime leaders.
4. Texas Tech (8-4, 5-3)
Last week: Beat Baylor 20-13. Up next: Bowl game. In 10 years at Tech, coach Mike Leach's average season record has been 8-4. So I guess that makes this an average season, with bigger hopes for next year.
5. Oklahoma (7-5, 5-3)
Last week: Beat Oklahoma State 27-0. Up next: Bowl game. Nice comeback by the Sooners after getting punked the week before at Texas Tech. But OU faces more questions for 2010 than in many years.
6. Missouri (8-4, 4-4)
Last week: Beat Kansas 41-39. Up next: Bowl game. The best returning quarterback in the North Division for 2010 by far is MU's Blaine Gabbert. That gives the Tigers hope for contending.
7. Texas A&M (6-6, 3-5)
Last week: Lost to Texas 49-39. Up next: Bowl game. The best returning quarterback in the South Division for 2010 by far is A&M's Jerrod Johnson. That gives the Aggies hope for contending.
8. Iowa State (6-6, 3-5)
Last week: Idle. Up next: Bowl game. Cyclone fans already have their drinking shoes on in preparation for a bowl trip. The only question is whether suds will flow in Houston or Shreveport.
9. Kansas State (6-6, 4-4)
Last week: Idle. Up next: Season over. The giant junior college recruiting class that Ron Prince brought in is out of eligibility. That means the Wildcats will be Kittycats in terms of experience.
10. Kansas (5-7, 1-7)
Last week: Lost to Missouri 41-39. Up next: Season over. Still trying to figure out if a team has started a season 5-0 and then gone 0-7. Hard to believe with the talent available and the weakness of the North Division.
11. Baylor (4-8, 1-7)
Last week: Lost to Texas Tech 20-13. Up next: Season over. For the 15th straight year, the battle cry from Waco is “wait 'til next year.'' QB Robert Griffin must heal correctly for anything to change.
12. Colorado (3-9, 2-6)
Last week: Lost to Nebraska 28-20. Up next: Season over. Lot of talk about Tyler Hansen being the QB to get CU going. His stats: 55.8 percent completions, eight touchdowns, seven interceptions, 33 sacks.
