Firth man injured in crash

A 36-year-old Firth, Neb., man was critically injured Monday evening when the car he was driving went out of control and rolled several times, ejecting him, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office said.

The man’s identity was being withheld until relatives could be notified.

He was taken by ambulance to BryanLGH Medical Center West in Lincoln after the crash, which occurred about 8 p.m., roughly two miles south of Hickman.

The man, driving a green 1992 Ford Mustang, had been following another vehicle south on 68th Street when he tried to pass, said Sgt. Mike Novacek. The Mustang veered left into the east ditch and rolled, landing back on the roadway on its top, Novacek said.

The man did not appear to have been wearing a seat belt, the sergeant said. Authorities were investigating whether alcohol use was a factor in the crash, Novacek said, because alcohol was found in the car.
