Make strides with the mayor

Lace up your shoes and walk with Mayor Jim Suttle in the Field Club neighborhood Saturday morning.

He will lead a 1.5-mile walk starting at 10 a.m. from the southwest corner of 36th Street and Woolworth Avenue.

The walk is one of Omaha By Design’s “9 in ’09 Great Walks.” It also kicks off Activate Omaha’s “Sprint Through the Holidays” campaign, designed to help people manage their weight and fitness at this challenging time of the year.

Gardens to focus on holiday tree

Lauritzen Gardens is offering a chance to have lunch while learning all about the gardens’ holiday wildlife tree and how to create one at home.

You can do this at Monday’s “Feeding the Birds” installment of Nourish, the garden’s lunch-and-learn lecture series.

Lectures are from 12:15 p.m. to 1 p.m. and are free with paid garden admission or membership. You must preregister with Jane Diesen at 346-4002 ext. 263 or j.diesen@omahabotanicalgardens.org.

Bring your own lunch or purchase one from the cafe. Lauritzen Gardens is at First and Bancroft Streets.
