Majority owner Aravind Gottiparthy opened the restaurant Sept. 25. An information technology consultant who has lived in Omaha for about six years, Gottiparthy said he operated a restaurant in India and has been planning Dhaba, his first in Omaha, for nearly three years.
Gottiparthy declined to name his primary chefs, but he said they are natives of India with experience in American restaurants (in Dallas, Atlanta and Kansas City). One specializes in curries, one in tandoori dishes and one in appetizers, he said.
The restaurant welcomes reservations, particularly for large parties. And it will accept menu orders for takeout or from reserved tables during its otherwise buffet-only lunches.
Dhaba serves mixed drinks, Crane Lake wines, and bottled beers, among them the Indian brews Kingfisher, Taj Mahal and Flying Horse.
Gottiparthy plans to add some outdoor seating next summer. Hes also working on a childrens menu and, eventually, delivery service.
