    NEBRASKA VS. TEXAS

    Quarter by quarter

    FIRST QUARTER

Pierre Allen: Nebraska’s defensive end tipped Colt McCoy’s second pass of the game, and Husker defensive back Eric Hagg picked it off at the UT 41. That set up Alex Henery’s 45-yard field goal that put NU up 3-0.

Colt McCoy: Texas’ quarterback, instead of throwing the ball away with receivers covered, tried to squeeze a pass between two defenders. Cornerback Prince Amukamara intercepted at the UT 43.

Alex Henery: Nebraska’s place-kicker bailed out the Huskers’ stuck-in-the-mud offense again. After NU went three and out following Amukamara’s interception, Henery banged in a 52-yard field goal for a 6-0 lead.

Phillip Dillard: Nebraska’s linebacker, on the final play of the quarter, nailed UT’s Tre Newton for a 4-yard loss on third-and-4 to force a punt.

    SECOND QUARTER

Eric Martin: Nebraska’s backup linebacker blew in from the outside on a Texas punt and deflected it. The punt traveled only 7 yards, giving NU the ball at the UT 37.

Zac Lee: Nebraska’s quarterback wasted the blocked punt. His deep ball into the end zone was intercepted by UT cornerback Aaron Williams for a touchback.

Eric Hagg: Nebraska’s defensive back got called for a pass interference penalty when Texas had third-and-14 at the NU 19. From first-and-goal at the 4, Texas scored in two plays to go ahead 7-6.

Mack Brown: Texas’ coach inexplicably declined to call any of his three timeouts when NU took over the ball at the NU 26 with 2:19 to go in the half. Texas got the ball back with 43 seconds left and crossed midfield but ran out of time before getting into field-goal range.

    THIRD QUARTER

Ndamukong Suh: Nebraska’s defensive tackle beat two blockers and tossed McCoy like a toy soldier for a 7-yard sack that essentially ended the Longhorns’ first possession.

Matt O’Hanlon: Nebraska’s safety came on a blitz and nailed McCoy for an 11-yard loss on third-and-6 from the 28 to knock the Longhorns out of field-goal range.

McCoy: Texas’ quarterback wasn’t getting much done with his arm, so he contributed with his foot. Twice he pooch-punted. One was downed at the NU 1, the other at the 7. Nebraska couldn’t get out of either hole.

Lee and Brandon Kinnie: Nebraska’s quarterback and wide receiver connected on a 14-yard gain for a first down two plays before the end of the third quarter. That was Nebraska’s longest gain so far, doubling the previous high of a 7-yarder on its first play.

    FOURTH QUARTER

Niles Paul: His 43-yard punt return to the Texas 10-yard line leads to another Henery field goal, pulling NU to within a point.

Dejon Gomes: Another key play at crunch time by a Husker defender. With Texas driving, Gomes one-hands an interception/takeaway that energizes the Huskers and brings the offense back on the field at its 31 with 4:56 left in the game.

Lee and Kinnie: Lee runs for 17 yards, and Kinnie makes a key 16-yard third-down catch that leads to a 42-yard field goal by Henery, putting NU on top 12-10 with 1:44 remaining.

Adi Kunalic: The Husker kicker delivers a kickoff out of bounds, giving UT the ball at the 40.

McCoy: The Texas QB nearly runs out the clock during a scramble and long pass out of bounds, but a review resets the clock at :01 with the ball at the Texas 29.

Hunter Lawrence: The Texas kicker squeezes a 46-yard field goal just inside the left upright. Texas wins 13-12. — Lee Barfknecht
