Diners at Dhaba Indian Cuisine can taste a variety with the thali, a full Indian meal served in little cups on a large tray.

Location: 2012 N. 117th Ave.

The eatery has something for everyone: quick and casual buffet-only lunches, more relaxed full-service dinners, speedy takeout, terrific Indian and Indo-Chinese dishes, and a modern dining room with a few village-y touches, like copper-bottomed serving bowls and thatched-roofed booths.

Hours: 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. to at least 10 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays.

Information: 505-6950.

Prices: $15 or less at lunch, $25 and less at dinner.

Mom scoop: There was no kids menu when we visited, but the owner said he plans to add one. Most dishes are served family style, so sharing is easy and expected. It's casual and loud enough during lunch that a noisy kid won't turn heads. At dinner, it's a little more subdued and grown-up, so takeout might be the better option if someone hasn't had his nap. Our takeout order was ready when promised and neatly packed. And, while the restaurant can make things spicy, dishes like palak chicken (white chicken in a creamy, mild sauce with spinach), steamed basmati rice, gajar halwa (carrot-and-honey pudding), mango lassi (yogurt smoothie) and tandoor-baked naan bread are mild enough for many little ones.

Josie Loza: Coping after a miscarriage
When I was young, my mother took us kids to the cemetery to visit "our baby." We'd skip past cemetery plots while Mom sat near a rose-colored tombstone that read "Our baby... Baby Loza... Asleep in Jesus." As time past, the visits faded. I was too young to understand what pained my then 25-year-old mother. She was coping after having a miscarriage. Years later, I found myself in her shoes. Click the headline to read more.
