People ready to save, survey finds

The Associated Press

A new survey indicates that more Americans are going to make saving and investing for retirement priorities in 2010.

Omaha-based online brokerage TD Ameritrade says the survey shows more people want to save more or invest more next year.

About 66 percent of women plan to save more in 2010, up from 60 percent a year ago. And 59 percent of men said they plan to save more, which is unchanged from a year ago.

About 27 percent of this year’s respondents say they want to start or build on their retirement savings. That’s up from 21 percent a year ago.

Ameritrade hired Opinion Research Corp., an InfoGroup company, to conduct the phone sur- vey of 1,002 adults in late September. The survey has a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.
