Man imprisoned in child sex assault

STANTON, Neb. (AP) — A 39-year-old northeast Nebraska man has been given 25 to 40 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl.

Court records say James McConnell of Stanton had pleaded guilty in October to first-degree sexual assault of a child. In exchange for his plea, prosecutors dropped a lesser felony charge.

He was sentenced Monday by Judge Robert Ensz of Stanton County District Court.

Sheriff Mike Unger said in affidavit that McConnell had gone to his office in July and admitted exposing himself to the girl.

Unger said McConnell later admitted sexually assaulting the girl at least twice.
