10th Annual Loess Hills Christmas Event in Turin: 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Country Homestead Bed and Breakfast in Iowa. Cut a free Christmas tree and help restore Loess Hills prairie. Hot cider, cocoa and munchies will be provided. Bring your own bow saw or snipper and wear protective gloves and sturdy shoes for hiking in the rugged hills. The cedar trees come in all sizes but look more like a tree from “A Charlie Brown Christmas” than a picture-perfect tree. Tips: Leave the cedar tree outside for a week to reduce the strong cedar scent, and enhance the needles' greenness by setting the tree in a pot of sand watered with green food coloring.
Nebraska Vegetarian Society's Holiday Potluck at the Benson Community Center: 2 p.m. Saturday at 6008 Maple St. Bring a vegan or vegetarian dish to share, serving utensils, note card telling if dish is vegan or vegetarian, its ingredient list and allergen information. No nuts. Sarah-Mai Miller will present a cooking demonstration.
Christmas Party for Persons with Disabilities at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City: Thursday in the St. Francis Center in the Stark Student Center on the Iowa campus. The Briar Cliff community will welcome approximately 100 residents of Siouxland Residential Services, Mid-Step Services and Opportunities Unlimited. Holiday lunch, music by Sister Mary Arnold Staudt and the Cliff Singers, plus Santa Claus handing out gifts donated by Briar Cliff organizations, students and employees.
Happy Holly Gayz by the River's Edge from the River City Mixed Chorus: 7 p.m. Friday at Dietz Memorial United Methodist Church, 1423 S. 10th St. The concert will feature a wide variety of songs for the season. Holiday Air Affair at Strategic Air & Space Museum: 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the museum near Ashland, Neb. Family activities including photos with Santa in the FB-111 and a special appearance from the members of the 501 Legion, the costuming organization that spreads the magic of the Star Wars genre. Celebration will include a miniature train display, holiday movie, holiday craft stations and more. Admission is $10 for adults, $9 for senior citizens and military, $5 for children ages 4-12, and free for age 3 and younger. Visitors are encouraged to bring in food items for $1 off admission. The food items will be donated to the Ashland Food Pantry.
