Man imprisoned for assault on teen

RED CLOUD, Neb. (AP) — A 24-year-old Bladen man has been given 20 months-to-60 months for trying to sexually assault a 15-year-old girl.

It was Steven Spicknall’s second conviction for attempted sexual assault of a minor.

After a deal with prosecutors, Steven Spicknall had pleaded no contest. Prosecutors reduced the charge from a Class 2 felony that carried a maximum sentence of 50 years. He was sentenced on Monday.

Court records say Spicknall met the girl online. She says she had consensual sex with Spicknall in January at his house.

Records also say that in June 2006 Spicknall was given a year after pleading guilty to attempted first-degree sexual assault, involving two 14-year-old girls.

Nebraska law prohibits people 19 or older from having sex with those under 16.
