A 16-year-old girl accepted responsibility Friday in Douglas County Juvenile Court for her role in luring her father to the Elkhorn-area home where he was beaten to death.
Douglas County Juvenile Court Judge Christopher Kelly will decide at a hearing in February on the fate of Sara Carson.
She could face anything from probation to placement at a group home or at a state facility in Geneva, Neb.
Carson is the fifth of the so-called “Elkhorn Eight” to acknowledge a role in the April death of Brian Carson. Brian Carson's son, Ryan, and two alleged accomplices are awaiting trial in Douglas County District Court.
Sara Carson is the first of the eight people charged in connection with the death to have her case handled in juvenile court. She admitted responsibility — the equivalent of pleading guilty — to two charges: conspiracy to commit murder and being an accessory to a felony.
Prosecutors say Ryan Carson, who has pleaded not guilty, plotted the attack on his dad after learning that Brian Carson had sex with Ryan Carson's girlfriend.
Sara Carson made a phone call to her dad telling him to bring his motorcycle over to the Carsons' Elkhorn-area home. She said that she knew her brother was lying in wait to attack their father.
Sara Carson has cooperated with prosecutors and has agreed to testify about the plot to kill Brian Carson. She told police that her mother, Teresa Carson, knew of the plot. Sara Carson said her mom spoke of getting her husband's life insurance policy — and warned her son to “make sure you clean it up.”
Teresa Carson denied making those comments.
