Film explores role of objects in our lives
Film Streams, Omaha's nonprofit arthouse movie theater, is joining with design alliance OMAha and Omaha Creative Institute to present a special screening of “Objectified” on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Ruth Sokolof Theater, 14th and Webster Streets.
“Objectified,” a feature-length documentary, looks at our complex relationship with manufactured objects and — by extension — the people who design them. Director Gary Hustwit looks at what the objects we buy say about us.
A post-show panel discussion will follow the screening.
The event is part of Film Streams' community development program, in which nonprofits and community groups participate in film-related events that speak to their missions. The design group fosters public discourse on design disciplines, while the Omaha Creative Institute fosters creative capital to further Omaha's cultural scene.
Tickets for the screening are on sale at the Film Streams box office or online at www.filmstreams.org.

Symphony will receive honor from Girls Inc.
Girls Inc. will give its annual Angel Award to the Omaha Symphony this year.
The award recognizes a person or organization that has had a significant impact on Girls Inc. programming. The symphony last year developed a mentoring program at Girls Inc., which matched area high school musicians with youngsters from Girls Inc.
Most of the high school students were seniors who were preparing for careers as music teachers. They taught the children at Girls Inc. and served as role models, taking them out for pizza and symphony concerts.
