A 24-year-old Nebraska City man was shot in the head Monday in what others with him described as a robbery attempt near 27th and Browne Streets, Omaha police said.

Police identified the victim as Kyle Cline.

As of early Tuesday, police said Cline''s injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

Cline was in a car with three other people. Those others told police someone tried to rob them, that someone fired shots into the vehicle and the victim was hit three to four times, said Sgt. Chris Perkins.

The driver fled the area, stopping near 29th Street and Camden Avenue and went to a house, where they asked for help, Perkins said. The witnesses led police back to the shooting scene.

The shooting was reported about 10:10 p.m.

Preston Love Jr., who lives in the neighborhood, said he heard about five gunshots.

The victim was said to be conscious and breathing immediately after the shooting. He was considered in critical condition when taken by ambulance to Creighton University Medical Center.
